Creating Online Content for Youth Services INFO 5845
Examines current trends in developing an online course and adapting face-to-face content to the online environment for a K–12 audience. Exploration of instructional design methods to develop online content and the implications for youth services. Understanding of what is involved in curating online content for school or public libraries. Analysis of online content, online courses and online functionality of course material with associated recommendations for content delivery policies. This course culminates in the creation of a course via an online Learning Management System (LMS).
Course Objectives:

Survey of print and non-print materials, including multicultural/multiethnic materials; utilization practices and selection; curricular correlations and enrichment; recreational and developmental needs; young adult services and programs; wide reading and use of literature and other materials for young adults from upper middle school through high school years.

- Assess how issues of gender, sexuality, and the body affect the distribution, readership, and perception of young adult novels
- Develop criteria for choosing YA texts in accordance with development, aesthetic, and cultural factors

Analyzes and utilizes current and emerging technologies. This course calls for hands-on use of the technologies as well as frequent reflections on how to apply what you've learned from an academic and a practical standpoint.

Begins with the study of ancient library buildings progressing to the impact of modern library architecture. The evolution of space in libraries as well as the effect technology has on modern buildings and spaces are discussed. This course culminates in the creation and design of a library space with a resulting portfolio that showcases the student’s ability to research, design, and plan.
